25+ Jiu Jitsu Gifts for Every Budget
Wanting to buy a gift for the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu lover in your life but not sure what to get? Here’s a list of ideas that small gifts that would work great as a stocking stuffer, gift for a BJJ training buddy, or part of a gift basket, as well as ideas for a truly special, custom gift.
Jiu Jitsu Gift Basket or Stocking Stuffer Ideas
One gift idea would be to assemble a BJJ themed gift basket that includes some items any BJJ athlete will appreciate. In addition to any of other small items I’ll be mentioning later on in this article, a Jiu Jitsu gift basket could include:
- Extreme hold Bandaids like these
- Athletic tape (Monkey Tape is a popular brand)
- Protein bars
- LMNT electrolyte packets
- Submission soap
- Deodorant wipes (such as Defense Wipes or this brand)
- Hair elastics (These are the ones I use for Jiu Jitsu class)
Jiu Jitsu Gifts Under $30
To kick off this list, I’ll suggest some affordable Jiu Jitsu gifts that will show you care without breaking the bank. These items would be great as stocking stuffers, gifts for friends or family members who do Jiu Jitsu, or something you could take to a gift exchange at a Christmas party with other BJJ enthusiasts.
Jiu Jitsu Stickers (under $10)
Stickers are fun and cheap. I like using them to decorate the water bottle I take to Jiu Jitsu class; other people like to put them on their cars, laptops, or other items. I usually buy my Jiu Jitsu stickers on Etsy, where you can find them for about $5 each. Here is just one of many BJJ sticker shops with lots of fun options to choose from.
This pack of Jiu Jitsu stickers would make a great gift along with a new water bottle to decorate, or you could gift individual stickers to your favorite training partners or add them to a stocking or gift basket.
Jiu Jitsu Patches (Under $10)
Jiu Jitsu themed patches are similar to stickers in that they are a fun way to express personality. They can be sewn onto gi’s, gym bags, or other clothing. They make an affordable but thoughtful gift.
Funny Jiu Jitsu Candle
I love the whole series of “Smells like…” Jiu Jitsu candles from Guard What’s Yours on Etsy. One year I got this one for a friend and she loved it:
Grappling Socks
If the person you’re buying a present for trains in a gym that’s cold and drafty in winter, they might like a pair of mat socks like these Sanabul grappling socks to keep their toes from freezing while they’re going through warmups. They are grippy on the bottom to provide the traction needed for Jiu Jitsu.
These are also great for protecting an injured toe or toenail while it’s healing. My instructor received these as a gift from his family one year and wore them on chilly mornings at an outdoor Jiu Jitsu retreat.
Jiu Jitsu Dice
TheJiuJitsuDiceCo sells several variations of Jiu Jitsu dice, including one that’s all chokes, one that’s all leg submissions, and the one pictured below, which is a variety of submissions. These can be used in multiple ways. For example, beginners could use these as a way to review or decide what to drill, and more advanced BJJ practitioners could play a game where each opponent can only win with the submission they rolled.
Ranked Keychain
These can be used as an actual keychain or as a zipper pull on a gym bag. The ones pictured below can be found here, or you can see some other styles here.
Jiu Jitsu T-Shirt
Etsy is a great place to shop for clever and affordable Jiu Jitsu themed t-shirts.
Training Log
This beautiful training journal provides a space for BJJ students to take notes in class and record what they learn each day as well as track personal goals and health levels. I feel this gift would be perfect for a Jiu Jitsu student who is NOT constantly trying out new moves they learned from YouTube, but who IS a studious, conscientious, straight-A (probably Type A) type of learner.
Ranked Scrunchie
Even though I’m not really a scrunchie person, I think these ranked scrunchies are adorable, especially as a gift to commemorate a belt promotion. Since the stripes are sewn on, I asked the seller what people are supposed to do when they get a new stripe, and she said many of her customers add a strip of athletic tape, just like what’s as stripes on Jiu Jitsu belts.
Jiu Jitsu Gifts Under $100
Private Lessons
Taking private lessons from one’s Jiu Jitsu instructor is one of the best ways to break through plateaus and make rapid progress, but the cost often prohibits students to take private lessons on a regular basis. Paying for one or more private lessons would be a meaningful gift that also supports a local business doesn’t add clutter to someone’s home.
Grappling Dummy
A grappling dummy can come in handy for drilling technique at home, especially for someone who isn’t able to make it to class as frequently as they would like. However, I would suggest that before buying this you find out whether the person would for sure want one, as they take up quite a bit of space. But for someone who does want one, a grappling dummy would be a good gift because it falls in the “nice to have” category of things people may want but might not buy for themselves.
One thing to be aware of: Most grappling dummies come unfilled to save on shipping costs, so either you will have to fill it before gifting it, or the recipient will have to fill it after receiving it. Old fabric cut into small pieces is a popular choice for filling.
Jiu Jitsu Duffel Bag
If your loved one’s gym bag looks like it has seen better days, a new duffel bag designed specifically with Jiu Jitsu athletes in mind would make a great gift. My husband has the Randori Duffel Bag from Gold BJJ and really likes it. Someone who walks, bikes, or takes public transportation to get to class would probably prefer the Gatame Training Backpack.
The nice thing about these bags as well as other BJJ-specific gym bags is the large lined compartment that keeps a sweaty gi separate from clean clothes.
Belt Display Rack
If you’re choosing a gift for someone who is at least a purple belt, a display rack for their old Jiu Jitsu belts and medals would make a nice gift. There are lots of options on Etsy; I really like this one.
Jiu Jitsu Gifts Over $100
Competition Fees
Another good “experience gift” would be to pay the entry fee for your loved one’s next competition (if they compete). Regional competition fees usually range from $75-$115. You could print a certificate and put it in a nice card. A gift like this would show that you care about the person’s interests.
BJJ Fanatics Gift Card
A BJJ Fanatics gift card is a great last-minute gift idea because it is purchased online and delivered digitally. BJJ Fanatics is an online library of Jiu Jitsu courses and video instruction from some of the sport’s most famous names and world champions. Many of the courses cost between $150-$250, but there are also quite a few for around $79.
Alchemize Rash Guard or Singlet
Alchemize is one of few brands that designs rash guards and singlets specifically for female bodies*, but they are pricey. If you have a woman in your life who trains BJJ, some Alchemize gear would be one of those gifts she might have her eye on but hasn’t yet purchased for herself.
*Lots of brands sell “women’s rash guards” but the sizing isn’t always right.
A Nice Gi
Lots of people buy a cheap gi when they’re first starting out, but would probably appreciate a more high-end gi as a gift. The problem is, gi sizing is all over the place, and just because a company’s size chart says a gi will fit doesn’t mean it will actually fit. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen posts on Facebook from women selling a gi they received as a Christmas gift because it didn’t fit quite right.
Instead of buying a gi as a gift, I would suggest purchasing a gift card for one of the brands listed in my gi shopping guide that offers inclusive sizing. That way, she can find a gi that fits her perfectly instead of you having to guess or rely on a size chart. (If you want to know my all-time favorite gi, it’s the Hyperfly Starlyte gi!)
Gift Certificate for a Massage (or Chiropractor)
It’s no secret that people who have been doing Jiu Jitsu for a while often have a lot of aches and pains. If you are shopping for someone who’s always talking about how sore they are, a gift card for a massage or a visit to their favorite chiropractor is certain to be appreciated.
Theragun
A Theragun is an electronic device popular with BJJ athletes that can provide pain relief and stimulate bloodflow to assist with recovery and promote healing. If you’re shopping for a loved one who is constantly suffering from old injuries, a Theragun would be a thoughtful gift.
Leather BJJ Duffel Bag
I shared a few gym bags earlier in this post, but this limited edition leather Jiu Jitsu duffel bag would be a really nice upgrade for someone who appreciates “the finer things in life”. It would make a wonderful gift for a belt promotion, special anniversary, or other milestone.
Gi from Roll Bliss
If I ever make it to black belt, I’m going to reward myself with a gi and matching rash guard set from Roll Bliss. The gi’s and rash guards sold by this company are some of the most stunning and unique I’ve ever seen. The sizing is highly customized, and I feel confident that if you can obtain the person’s measurements (perhaps by measuring clothes or a gi you know fits them well) they will be able to help you order a gi that will fit.
Jiu Jitsu Vacation
For a truly special gift that will really make an impact, you could purchase tickets, travel, and lodging for a Jiu Jitsu retreat. Here’s a website where you can find training camps all over the world led by famous black belts in vacation-worthy destinations all over the world. This is a gift that they will remember for the rest of their life.
